I once had a teacher tell me that it seems that I think in complete sentences. While I find that a bit of a silly thing to say, it would seem that I am quite suited to expressing myself in complete sentences without very much effort. I suppose this is a gift, a talent for which I should be most proud.
Being the humble sort of gal that I am, however, I simply accept that I have this ability and endeavor to make the best of it. As it seems that writing is the only form of artistic expression that I am sufficiently skilled at, it is the one that I practice the most. Other art forms simply frustrate me beyond words, which is why I don't write about them!
The reason I write is to put things into perspective. It's not so much that I feel that my opinions and my life story are topics of such import that it would be a crime for them not to be put into prose. I simply have a need to express myself in a form that makes me feel creative and not like a dizzy, silly person that can't stop the racing train that runs crazy routes through my busy mind. There needs to be some order brought to the chaos.
Writing is the only action that serves to somewhat serve that purpose. My words don't always perfectly achieve that goal, but they alleviate some of the problem.
I would love to hear from my fellow writers in answering that very question, and if you're stuck for something to write about at some point, reflect on this quaint little query, "What Makes Me a Writer?"
