Still, I often felt most of my poetry wasn’t very good. I’ve won a little prize or two here and there. Sure, I’ve gotten high praise for several little pieces. Yeah, they would’ve been considered good for a secondary school student scribbling in her college-ruled notebook, I suppose. But far as I’m concerned, I’m no professional poet. They are the result of scribblings that didn’t quite fit into prose.
Prose is more my forte. I like it fine this way. Sure, I love to play with rhyme schemes, meter, and tone. But, I find myself counting syllables and treading dangerously on being horrifically out of rhythm. Most of the time I’d say I’m far from a proper and technically sound poet.
Maybe, I’m a tad too obsessed with technicalities. There’s nothing wrong with writing free verse poetry, after all. But such idiosyncrasies are a part of what I am, and made me the writer of prose that I have become.
Some will say I brag about my writing skills, and I don’t mean to come off that way. I’, simply confident in my talents and not afraid to show said confidence. Sure, I take pride in my prose writing. But for the most part, I’m not proud of my poetry. Perhaps, that’s a shame. Sure, there are poems I’m proud of, but it’s not many.
Over the years, though, I’ll still end up sharing some poems here and there. To my surprise, you, my darling readership, tend to like them more often than not. At some point in the future, I’ll be sharing more from my vast archive of silly rhymes. Just keep an open mind with it.
While I’m a bit more set in my prose writing, with poetry I tend to experiment with various things. I don’t have one specific theme or style with my poems. Perhaps, I prefer poetry to be my idea sandbox. It will probably stay that way. While I don’t wish to disappoint your keen and sharp minds that have come to expect only the best from moi, it is what it is!
If you like to rhyme, just do it. Don’t worry if it’s “good.” Whenever it comes to poetry, just let it come. You never know what it may become later.
