So, what makes something worthy of blogging?
Honestly, as long as you can make something sound interesting and provide some value to your visitors, you can write about just about anything on your blog. That’s why there are so many writing niches out there. My own niche has seemed to become writing about writing about what you should be blogging about to blog about.
Really, if something strikes your fancy to blog about, be sure to make a note of it, whether it’s with a picture or some sort of post-it note or a message in your phone. I tend to text myself thoughts all the time. If something gets your attention, someone else will probably like to read about it, too!
While we’re on the subject, what’s NOT worth blogging about?
This is a tricky thing for me to pin down sometimes: what should I NOT write about? Well, the simple answer is to always be positive and don’t write anything negative. But, such a blanket statement is misleading. I’ve had blog posts that were pretty negative. And yes, those typically don’t do well. If you do write on negative topics, you have to find a way to do it with a positive spin.
How can you be positive when you’re writing about something negative? For the most part, it usually pays to be strictly positive, but if there is an issue that needs to be said, be constructive about it. Try to offer solutions. Find a positive spin that will leave your readers feeling good by the end.
But, that isn’t always possible, is it? Well, if you HAVE to write about something negative that will leave readers feeling bad by the end, make sure that it’s about something substantial that is an actual real problem in our world. If it’s just drama, you probably don’t need to write it... although, there are constructive ways to deal with drama, too, and those ARE worth writing about!
All that matters is make sure your readers have fun, and that have fun writing it, too!
Most people read blogs to have fun. So, you should have fun, too! This means that you can write some silly posts once in a while. You don’t always have to write the perfect post, and SEO it to perfection. We don’t always have to rely on keyword research, niche considerations, and all that. Sometimes, you’re allowed to have fun! It’s online, so you can always fix it later.
Yeah, all of those other things are important. But those other things - SEO, especially - should complement what you doing, not define it. Your passion and your own personality must be the things that come first.
Oh, look at that! I’m totally blogging it!
